5 - 2x = x + 26 \\ 5 - 2x - x - 26 = 0 \\ - 3x - 21 = 0 \\ - 3x = 21 \\ x = - 7

substitute x value in a and b

x + 5 = - 7 + 5 = - 2

and

x + 7 = - 7 + 7 = 0
