They darted behind a tree and looked carefully. Yes, it was a red panda! The red panda lived in
the forests of China, India, Sikkim and Bhutan. A reddish brown, bushy-tailed mammal, the size
of a cat, the red panda had a long tail, which it used to wrap around like a blanket in winter. It
ate grass, roots, berries, birds and chicks. The red panda gave birth to one to four babies and
cared for them. The cubs were born in a hole of an old tree. These cubs depended upon their
mothers till they were big enough. Later the mother and the cubs moved from tree to tree and
hunted for food together. Poached for its fur and victim of the cruel pet trade, the red panda
fought a lonely battle for survival.
