let the intial velocity be u
then final velocity=v
time taken to change the velocity from u to v=t
we know that acceleration means change i n velocity
hence
acceleration=(v-u)/t

\bold{a = \frac{dv}{dt} \ or \ a = \frac{F}{m}}

Explanation:

The acceleration is termed as the change in velocity with respect to time.

So the basic formula of acceleration is,

a=\frac{d v}{d t}=\frac{v-u}{t}

Where v is final velocity and u is initial velocity with time being represented as t.

The acceleration's unit is m.s^{-2}

The acceleration can also be defined from Newton's second law which states that body's acceleration is directly proportional to the force (F) applied to it and inversely proportional to the mass (m) of the body.

a=\frac{F}{m}
