Ethanoic acid is the second member of the homologous series of carboxylic acids. The formula of ethanoic acid is CH3COOH and the functional group present in it is carboxylic acid i.e. —COOH. Its 5 8% solution in water is called vinegar.

Hey there!

To be simple. Ethanoic acid contains "Eth" which means two and "oic acid" which means it is a carboxylic acid.

Hence it's quite clear that formula for compound is

CH3-COOH or commonly known as Acetic acid!

And functional group is Carboxylic acid!
