The formula   to accommodate maximum number of electrons in a shell is 2n²

                                                                                       n: number of orbit/shell

the number for L and M are 2 and 3 respectively.

∴number of electron that can be accommodated in L shell = 2(2)²

                                                                                               = 8 e⁻s

number of electron that can be accommodated in M shell = 2(3)²

                                                                                             =18  e⁻s
