Polyatomic radicals : These are the chemically charged species made up more than one atoms acting as a single unit. All the atoms are covalently bonded to each other due to which these species act as a single unit.

For example:

  • Ammonium ion is composed of one nitrogen and four hydrogen atoms with charge of '+1',NH_4^+.
  • Sulfate  ion is composed of one sulfur and four oxygen atoms with charge of '-2',SO_4^{2-}.
  • Phosphate ion is composed of one phosphorus and four oxygen atoms with charge of '-3,PO_4^{3-}.
