A function of generator is use to convert high voltage ac current to low voltage ac current and vice versa.
It is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction and when ever there is change is magnetic flask a induce emf is produced
Now in case of generator the alternating emf whose emf needs to be induced is connected to primary coil and the output is obtained from secondary coil
In case of step up transformer ns>NP and turns ratio is greater than 1.

The function of eletric generator is to change mechanical energy into electrical energy
suppose coil rotate in anti clock wise direction ,the side AB of the coil moves down cutting the magnetic field lines near N-pole of the magnet ,and side CD moves up ,cutting the magnetic field lines near the S-pole of magnet . Due to this induced currents is produced in the side AB and CD of the coil , we find that the current are in the direction of B to A and D to C . Thus the induced currents in the two sides of the coil are in the same direction, and we get an effective induced current in the direction BADC . Thus in the first half revolution of coil , the current in the external circuit flows from B1 to B2
