Light is simply an energy. On earth we have artificial and our natural sources of heat and light. (There is usually heat along with light energy). Our sun provides us heat and light (our only prominent and dominant light and heat source). We need light and heat and without it life isn't possible.
The energy from the sun is transferred from plants to animals when animals eat the plants. Animals also benefit from the sun's effect on their bodies, because sunlight on skin produces vitamin D, which is important in the formation of strong bones. Animals also get vitamin D by eating plants.
Light is an essential factor in maintaining plants. The rate of growth and length of time a plant remains active is dependent on the amount of light it receives. Light energy is used in photosynthesis, the plant's most basic metabolic process.
Sunlight is necessary for plants to grow, and to provide energy to warm the earth's atmosphere. Light intensity controls plant growth. Light duration affects plant flowering and animal / insect habits.
Life is not possible without life as it is the basic energy provider for all food chains without which the ecosystem collapses. Us humans cannot even imagine a world with no light , we can't see anything, eat anything,( food chains and webs are broken completely) cannot perceive our surroundings. No light would mean no heat as well. This means almost all animals, birds and organisms cannot survive any further (including us). Overall we can say Light is one of the main factors for life without which life (cannot exist) cannot continue.
