Concepts of Federalism. Federalism is a type of government in which the power is divided between the national government and other governmental units. It contrasts with a unitary government, in which a central authority holds the power, and a confederation, in which states, for example, are clearly dominant.

Functions of federalism are -

● It has two or more levels of government.

●Different levels of government govern same citizens but each has different jurisdictions.

●The jurisdictions of respective levels of govt . Is specified in the constitution.

● The fundamental provision of the Constitution cannot be unilaterally change by one level of government it requires the consent of both levels of government.

● Courts have power to interpret the constitution and the powers of different levels of govt.

● Sources of revenue for each level of Government and clearly specified to ensure its financial autonomy.

● the federal system has dual objectives to safeguard the safeguard and promote unity of the country ,while at the same time accommodate diversity and an ideal federal system has both aspects : mutual trust and agreement to live together.
