Hello,
a neuron is the basic structural and functional unit of the nervous system. It is also called a nerve cell. the neuron is the pathway of an impulse(messages).
A neuron consists of a cell body called the cyton. From the cyton, many fibre-like structures called dendrites extend.there is a long tail-like fibre known as axon. some axons are covered with a mylein sheath, which is a layer of fatty insulating substance. The cell body contains cytoplasm and a nucleus. the axon of one neuron lies very close to the dendrites of another neuron this point of contact is called synapse. It is at the synapse that the messages are transmitted from one neuron to the other. The mylein sheath prevents the mixing of the impulse from adjacent nerves.
hope u understand very well.
