Inside the cell there is a membranous networking enclosing fluid filled lumen which is almost fills up the intracellular cavity.
ER occurs in three forms cisternae, vesicles and tubules. It is of two types
1) RER (Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum which is attached with ribosomes on its surface for synthesizing proteins.
2) SER(Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum) which is without ribosomes and it is meant for secreting lipids..

HOPE it helps u dear.

Following are the functions of endoplasmic reticulum:-

i) Rough endoplasmic reticulum has ribosomes on its surface and helps in the synthesis of protiens.

ii) Smooth endoplasmic reticulum helps in the synthesis of fats.

iii) Substances formed with the help of endoplasmic reticulum are constantly involved in the process of membrane repair and synthesis.
