Epidermis➙ An outer protective cell layer that provides protection against infection, mechanical injury & water loss in plants.
▶Function of Epidermis are:-
__________________________⤵
❖ It protect the plant from water loss by desiccation
❖ It protect the plant from infection by preventing entry of pathogens.
❖ It's cells protect internal tissues from the outside world by creating a barrier.
❖ It performs the function of absorption in the roots.
❖ It have a waxy covering called cutin which prevents loss of water in desert plants.
❖ It forms a boundary between the plant & the external environment.
❖ It regulates gas exchange, secretes metabolic compounds, absorbs water & mineral nutrients.
