The functions of epidermis are:-

[1] It protect the underlying tissues from mechanical injury Chemicals and infections.
[2] Cuticle of epidermis protect against water loss and disiccation.
[3] It protect infection by preventing entry of pathogens.

❖ It's cells protect internal tissues from the outside world by creating a barrier.

❖ It performs the function of absorption in the roots.

❖ It have a waxy covering called cutin which prevents loss of water in desert plants.

❖ It forms a boundary between the plant & the external environment.

❖ It regulates gas exchange, secretes metabolic compounds, absorbs water & mineral nutrients.
