Mitochondria are sites of cellular respiration. They are tiny bodies of varying shapes, distributed in the cytoplasm. They use molecular oxygen from air to oxidise the carbohydrates and fats present in the cell to carbon dioxide and water vapour.




Chloroplasts are present in green algae and higher plants . They have a green pigment called chlorophyll and they are involved in the photosynthesis of food.

These are small rod - like or spherical structures. They oxidize food to provide energy and are therefore called the powerhouse of the cell.
Chloroplast :
These contain the green pigment called Chlorophyll, which helps plants in making food.
