Montmorency is a fox-terrier and as said by Jerome he seems angelic only on the outer side but is full of naughtiness and is very boisterous. While packing thing for the trip he adds a lot to the mess created by Harris and George by stepping on the things when they were required, imagining oranges as rats and smashing upon them like anything and even breaking a lot of things. He even like to lead a gang of disreputable dogs and to have fights wit other disreputable dogs on the street. He also has great curiosity for the kettle and even attacks it once and comes off a poor second hurting himself badly. He also reacts to George's banjo in a very funny way and also dances with Harris while cooking the eggs. Even though a dog, he makes his presence feel to the readers throughout the novel making it more humorous and exciting.
