There are 2 types of thalassemia, namely, beta and alpha.

Genotypes of the parents of a child suffering from thalassemia is HbAHbT .

Thalassemia is caused by mutations in the DNA of cells that make hemoglobin. The mutations associated with thalassemia are passed from parents to children.

Thalassemia disrupts the normal production of hemoglobin and healthy red blood cells. This causes anaemia. With anemia, the blood doesn't have enough red blood cells to carry oxygen to the tissues leaving fatigued.
