A diode is a two-terminal electronic component which conducts mainly in one direction. In one direction it has low or zero resistance to the current and high or infinite resistance in the other.

Knee voltage or cutting voltage is the minimum amount of voltage that is needed to operate components. For Silicon diode it is 0.7 V and for Germaium diode it is 0.3 V.
