Napoleon Bonaparte is a figure of historical importance because his policies - most particularly, but not only, his wars - ended up transforming Europe and the wider world irreversible. What the revolution did in France, he did in the wider globalized world. Without Napoleon's actions, Europe outside of France  would have remained rather more traditional and conservative. A major impact that Napoleon had come about when people actually followed his ideas. Perhaps the most important of these was nationalism. Napoleon relied on and promoted the idea that French people should feel proud of their country and should feel connected to it. This influenced the people in other countries, leading to the rise of nationalism in those countries. Napoleon also introduced the idea of liberalism and the Laws of Napoleonic Code to many European countries. The Napoleonic Code improved the legal system of many European countries. His Napoleonic Code is the basis of democratic governments today.

The fall of the jacobin government allowed the wealthier middle classes to sieze power. A new constitution was introduced which denied the vote to non propertied sections of society. it provided for 2 elected legislative councils . these then appointed a directory, an executive made ul of 5 members. this was meant as a safeguard against the concentration of power in a 1 man executive as under the jacobins. however, the directors often clashed with the legislative councils, who then sought to dismiss them. the political instability of the directory paved the way for the rise of a military dictator, napoleon bonaparte.
