i. The Congress’ failure to mobilize the Muslim masses in the 1930s allowed the League to widen its social support.

ii. From the late 1930s, the Muslim League began to viewing the Muslims as a separate nation from the hindus.

iii. The provincial elections of 1937 seemed to have convinced the Muslim League that Muslims were a minority, and they would always have to play second fiddle in any democratic structure.

iv. In 1945, the Rift between the Congress, and the League saw itself the sole spokesperson of India’s Muslims.

v. The League success in the seats elections of 1946 encouraged them to demand for Pakistan.

vi. After the failure of the cabinet mission, the Muslim league decided on mass agitation for winning its Pakistan demand. It announced 16th August 1946 as “direct action day”.

All the above factors led to the creation of Pakistan.

1) In February 1937, the congress party in the Madras presidency won 159 out of 215 seats in the provincial legislative Assembly at the first election of Congress at provincial autonomy. Indian National Congress ( INC) forms ministers in seven provinces.

2) Haripuran session of the Indian National Congress held in 1938 and Subhash Chandra Bose elected the congress president.

3) Subhas Chandra Bose resigns the presidentship of the Indian National Congress in 1939 and Second world war begins. Viceroy declares that India too is at war.

4) In 1940 Lahore session of the Muslim league passes the Pakistan Resolution. Viceroy Linlithgow announces the August offer.Congress launches Individual Satyagraha movement.

5) In 1942 Quit India resolution was passed by the Bombay session of the AICC, which led to the start of a historical civil disobedience movement across India and Churchill announces Cripps movement.

6) In 1943 Karachi session of the Muslim League adopts the slogan of ‘Divide and Quit’.

7) In 1947 Indian Independence Bill introduced in the House of Commons and passed by the British parliament on July 18, 1947,and India gets independence.
