Important Dates :-
- 1614 - The last time when the meeting of Estates General was called before 1789.
- 1744 - Louis XVI of the Bourbon dynasty became the ruler of France at that time he was 20 years old and got married to Marie Antoinette (Austrian Princess)
- 1789 - States general assembly was called but this time the third estate demanded for "one man, one vote" rather than "one state, one vote", but the king denied. So, the third estate walked out of the assembly and started protesting. On 14th July, people formed a militia and stormed the fortress-prison, Bastille.
- 1791- The national assembly drafted the constitution which Limited the powers of the monarch. The powers were now assigned to different Institutions- the legislature, executive and judiciary.
- 1792- the national assembly declared a war against Russia and Austria before they could invade France. On 21st of September 1792 France abolished monarchy and became a Republic.
- 1793- On 21 January Louis XVI was executed publicly. Maximilian Robespierre ruled France from 1793 to 1794 (the reign of terror).
- 1794- Maximilian was convicted.
- 1804- Napoleon Bonaparte became the new military dictator of France.
- 1815- Napoleon was finally defeated at Waterloo.
