Here's your answer

The world ocean covers three fourths of the Earth’s surface. It has been around for billions of years and has therefore leached away at the underlying rocks, received material from below the crust via geological activity as well as extra terrestrial via asteroids.

Every second it receives a tremendous inflow in the form of river water which brings with it minerals leached from all over the Earth.

This is the origin of sea salt.

It’s there due to the erosion effects of moving water and the great solubility of water. An extreme case is the Dead Sea which receives inflows but has a much smaller area and is subject to intense evaporation.

If the sea loses it’s salts, marine life will die out. We are thus looking at a massive extinction. This will also affect life elsewhere on Earth including humans.

Apart from biology, salt also plays a role in the Earth’s climate. Sea water has a lower freezing point than fresh water. Removing all the salt will thus mean frozen seas much earlier in the year and at much lower latitudes. This will affect global climate and hamper shipping.
