write the information about Cellulose
Answers
Cellulose is a straight chain polysaccharide of β-glucose units linked by β-1,4- glycosidic bonds. Chemical hydrolysis of cellulose requires use of concerntrated strong acids at high temperature and pressure. This implies that the β-1,4- glycosidic bond is very strong and difficult to hydrolyse. Humans do not have enzymes which can hydrolyse this linkage. Hence cellulose cannot be digested by human beings; it serves as the fibrous content of food useful for bowel movement. shows the Haworth formula of cellulose.
Cellulose :
★ Cell wall of plants is made up of it.
★ It is the most abundant carbohydrate and organic molecule.
★ It is the polymer of B - glucose.
★ B1 - B4
★ It is unbranched.
★ It contains 6000 glucose units.
★ Cotton fibres contain largest amount of cellulose. ( 90 % ).
★ Wood have 20% to 25% cellulose.
★ It isn't easy to digest cellulose. Only animals like cow buffalo can easily digest it because of appendix presence.
Chitin :
★ Polymerase of NAG.
★ It is unbranched.
★ It is second most abundant carbohydrate and organic molecule.
★ In fungal cell wall.
★ In endoskeletal of arthropods.
