KP and KC values for the following reaction: 2H2O + 2Cl2= 4HCl + O2 are equal that is KP = KC.

The equilibrium constant Kp is equal to the partial pressures of the products divided by the partial products of the reactants and the partial products are to be raised by the coefficient of that substance in the balanced reaction form.

So, Kp = (Partial pressure of product)^(coefficient in balanced equation) / (Partial pressure of reactant)^(coefficient in balanced equation)

∴ For the reaction,

2H2O + 2Cl2= 4HCl + O2

Kp = {[p-HCl]^4 * [p-O2]}/{[p-H2O]^2 * [p-Cl2]^2}

where p-HCl represents the partial pressure of HCl and,

p-O2 represents the partial pressure of O2 and,

p-H2O represents the partial pressure of H2O and,

p-Cl2 represents the partial pressure of Cl2.

Also, Kc = (Concentration of product)^(coefficient in balanced equation) / (Concentration of reactant)^(coefficient in balanced equation)

∴ For the reaction,

2H2O + 2Cl2= 4HCl + O2

Kc = {[c-HCl]^4 * [c-O2]}/{[c-H2O]^2 * [c-Cl2]^2}

where c-HCl represents the concentration of HCl and,

c-O2 represents the concentration  of O2 and,

c-H2O represents the concentration of H2O and,

c-Cl2 represents the concentration of Cl2.

Also, Kp and Kc are related from the equation shown below:

Kp = Kc * (RT)^Δn

where R is the universal gas constant = 8.314 J / mol·K

T is temperature in K

Δn is the difference in no. of moles of reactants from products.

In this question, Δn = 4-(2+2) = 0

So, Kp = Kc.            [(RT)^0 = 1].
