According to the law of conservation of energy, energy can neither be created nor be destroyed it can only be changed from one form to another.
In case of the stone, when it is at a height it has potential energy stored in it but when it is allowed to fall down it's potential energy gets converted into the kinetic energy.

Law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor be destroyed, but It can be transformed from one form to another.
For example -
when we stone moves vertically down it has some kinetic energy, but when it comes to rest or on ground it's kinetic energy is converted in potential energy.
