Answer:

In India the various disadvantages of the nuclear power plants that most of the nuclear reactors are foreign technology based which means that almost no indigenous technology has been developed in India. The most recent installation of foreign nuclear power plant is of kundankulam power reactor in Tamil nadu which is installed by Russia . Obviously most of the nuclear power project has been supported by Russia .

Secondly most power plant use pressurised heavy water technology to produce nuclear energy which is 40–50 years old technology.inspite of master of this type of technology there no advantage of this coz it's old technology. heavy water is significantly more expensive than ordinary light water.Heavy water generally costs hundreds of dollars per kilogram, though this is a trade-off against reduced fuel costs.

The next disadvantage is using of uranium as a fuel which not available in India . And most of power reactor in India are significantly depended on uranium.we have large deposits of thorium in our country but we don't have technology to use it. As due to this we have to import the uranium by other countries which is very expensive. Since we have not signed NPT .The NSG(NUCLEAR SUPPLIER GROUP)does not allow us to import the required amount of uranium.which another big disadvantage.

The nuclear waste generated by power plant has to disposed properly but before that a certain amount of fuel has to be recycled . generally all reactors over the world face this problem but they recycle significant amounts of used fuel which is compensated by disposing charges.

Despite of this no efforts are being taken up by Indian government to develop own nuclear technology.
