Glass marbles, book, long plastic tubes, steel plate, digital clock
Explanation:
Aim : To find the motion of glass marbles on an inclined plane.
Required Material: Glass marbles, book, long plastic tubes, digital clock, steel plate
Procedure:
- Take a 200cm long flat insulated wire cassing channel made of plastic U type. Make tracks with these tube fragments.
- Along the track, label the readings in centimetres.
- An end of the track should be placed against the book, while the other should be placed on the floor.
- Place a steel plate on the floor at the base of the track.
- Assume that the reading at the track's bottom is zero.
- Pick a marble that is large enough to travel through the track.
- Now, at a distance of 40 cm, release the marble freely.
- When the marble is freed, start the digital clock.
- It descends the track and collides with the steel plate.
- When a sound is made, the digital clock will come to a halt.
- Repeat the experiment 2 to 3 times for the same distance and record the time values in the table.
- Repeat the experiment with different distances.
- For the following values, make an s-t graph.
- Repeat the preceding experiment with different track slopes and record the acceleration in each case.
- Conclusions: As the slope increases, so does the acceleration.
