Glass marbles, book, long plastic tubes, steel plate, digital clock

Explanation:

Aim : To find the motion of glass marbles on an inclined plane.

Required Material: Glass marbles, book, long plastic tubes, digital clock, steel plate

Procedure:

  1. Take a 200cm long flat insulated wire cassing channel made of plastic U type. Make tracks with these tube fragments.
  2. Along the track, label the readings in centimetres.
  3. An end of the track should be placed against the book, while the other should be placed on the floor.
  4. Place a steel plate on the floor at the base of the track.
  5. Assume that the reading at the track's bottom is zero.
  6. Pick a marble that is large enough to travel through the track.
  7. Now, at a distance of 40 cm, release the marble freely.
  8. When the marble is freed, start the digital clock.
  9. It descends the track and collides with the steel plate.
  10. When a sound is made, the digital clock will come to a halt.
  11. Repeat the experiment 2 to 3 times for the same distance and record the time values in the table.
  12. Repeat the experiment with different distances.
  13. For the following values, make an s-t graph.
  14. Repeat the preceding experiment with different track slopes and record the acceleration in each case.
  • Conclusions: As the slope increases, so does the acceleration.
