Main features of Himalayan system are heights, steep-sided peaks and alpine glaciers, topography cut by erosion,  river gorges, complex geologic framework and range of elevational belts that depicts ecological associations of flora, fauna.

Seen from south Himalayas seems as a gigantic crescent with main axis increased above snow line where snowfields, alpine glaciers and avalanches all feed lower-valley glaciers that constitutes the sources of most of Himalayan rivers.

Greater part of Himalayas lies below snow line.

Mountain-building process that created the range is still active.

As bedrock is lifted considerable stream erosion and gigantic landslides happens.
