OVARY

  • It is the primary female reproductive organ.

  • The two ovaries in female release the ovum or egg once during 28 days alternately.

  • The theca externa of the ova secretes the hormone called estrogen.

TESTIS

  • It is the primary male reproductive organ.

  • The testis is located in the scrotum outside the abdominal cavity.

  • It produces the male gamete called sperms.

  • The sertoli cells in testis nourishes the sperms.

  • Leydig cells secrete testosterone.

UTERUS

  • It is also called womb or hysterectus.

  • It is inverted pear shaped organ.

  • It is the place of attachment of the developing embryo.

EPIDIDYMIS

  • It is the accessory male reproductive organ.

  • It consists of three parts namely caput, corpus and cauda epididymis.

  • It connects testis to vas deferens.

  • It transports and stores the sperms produced from testis.

OVIDUCT

  • This is an accessory female reproductive organ.

  • It is also called fallopian tube.

  • It consists of four parts namely, fimbriae, infundibulum, ampulla and isthmus.

  • Oviduct collects the ova from ovary and transfer it to uterus.

Main functions of the following are -

i) Ovary :-

  • The ovaries produce the egg cells called the ova or oocytes.
  • The cells of corpus luteum secrete the hormones - Progesterone and relaxin

ii) Testis :-

  • Testis produces male gametes called sperms.

iii) Uterus :-

  • It is specialized for the development of the embryo.

iv) Epididymis :-

  • It provide or secrete nutritive fluid which provides nourishment to the sperms.

v) Oviduct :-

  • Oviduct provide site of fertilisation.
