To find the refractive index n, of a glass prism of angle 60° (A) with the angle of minimum deviation as D, we use the following formulae;
n = sin ( (A+D)/2) ÷ sin (A/2)
In our case D will be 40° A will be 60° Therefore.
n= sin (100/2)÷ sin (60/2)
≈ 1.53.
