Write the meaning of the following idioms and use each of them in sentences of your own.

I) To beat a retreat :-
Meaning:- To withdraw from a place very quickly.
Sentence:- We went out into the cold winter, but beat a retreat to the warmth of our fire.
II) To stick to one's gun :-
Meaning:- To remain firm in one's convictions.
Sentence:- I will stick to my guns in this matter.
III) To steal a March on :-
Meaning:- To precede someone who has the same goal.
Sentence:- Jeff stole a march on all of us when he had his story published.
IV) To pass muster :-
Meaning:- To measure up to the required standards.
Sentence:- Tired, but my efforts didn't pass muster.
V) Up in arms :-
Meaning:- In armed rebellion.
Sentence:- The entire population is up in arms.
