Merits:-

1) Violent methods as protesting government policies are happening throughout the world as they attract the attention of ruling party towards them thereby enabling their interests and problems to be looked into

2) For example, restoration of democracy in Nepal was made possible by transition of small struggle into worldwide support and movement by political parties, social groups etc.

Demerits:-

1) In nationalist movement of India, non violent methods of satyagraha introduced by Gandhi made initial steps of freeing India as it created a stir in the minds of British. This is a non – violence method and it is also evident that these movements based on non – violence did create a change in Indian history of freedom

2) Violence can only harm people and too much violent protest can also hamper the functioning of Government institutions
