Any acid is defined as mono basic or dibasic or tri basic depending upon its capacity of giving H+ ion. Boric acid in water, accepts OH-ion acting as lewis acid and water releases H+ ions. The reaction is :
B(OH)3 + H2O → H+ + [ B(OH)4]-
Thus boric acid is a monobasic acid.
