Write the modal class for the following frequency distribution:
Class-interval:
10−15
15−20
20−25
25−30
30−35
35−40
Frequency:
30
35
75
40

SOLUTION :

Hence, the highest frequency is of the class 20 - 25 which is 75.

Hence the modal class is 20 - 25 .

★★MODE: Mode is that value of the given observation which occurs most frequently.

★★In a grouped frequency distribution, it is not possible to determine the mode by looking at their frequencies. So, here we first locate a class with the maximum frequency. This class is called modal class.

Modal Class -- It is the class with highest frequency among the given class intervals.

Now, This is needed when we find the mode of a grouped data.

In this Grouped data, The class having highest frequency is 20 - 25.

Therefore the modal class is 20 - 25

Its frequency is given as 75, which is highest among all the frequencies given.

Now, It is needed while finding the mode, So when we find the mode we take the modal class as the class with highest frequency and in finding mode,

The lower value of modal class (l), The difference between the terms of modal class (h), The frequency of modal class(f1) , The frequency before the modal class (f0), frequency after the modal class (f2) is needed as well, so to find all these, in short to find the mode of grouped data modal class is needed.
