Hi Harsh,

Alkyl chlorides -

Alkanes with one hydrogen atom replaced by a chlorine atom are called alkyl chlorides.

Homologous series of alkyl chlorides includes -

1) 1-Chloromethane -

CH3-Cl

2) 1-Chloroethane -

CH3-CH2-Cl

3) 1-Chloropropane -

CH3-CH2-CH2-Cl

4) 2-Chloropropane -

CH3-CH(Cl)-CH3

5) 1-Chlorobutane -

CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-Cl

6) 2-Chlorobutane -

CH3-CH2-CH(Cl)-CH3

Hope this helps you.

Answer with explanation:

A group of chemical compounds which is derived from alkanes containing one or more than one halogens is called as haloalkanes (or alkyl chlorides).

We are to name and write the molecular formulas of the first six homologous alkyl chlorides which are as follows.

1. Chloro-methane - CH_3Cl

2. Chloro-ethane - C_2H_5Cl

3. Chloro-propane - C_3H_7Cl

4. Chloro-butane - C_4H_9Cl

5. Chloro-pentane - C_5H_{11}Cl

6. Chloro-hexane - C_6H_{13}Cl
