Non Metals :

  • Oxygen is used for breathing.
  • Chlorine is used for purifying water.
  • Phosphorous is used in crackers.
  • Non - metals like nitrogen is used in fertilizers.
  • Graphite is used as a good conductor of electricity.
  • Pottassium is used in fertilizers.
  • Nitrogen is used by plants.

Metals :

  • Gold, Platinum and silver are used as jewelleries and ornaments.
  • Iron and steel are used for construction purpose.
  • Aluminium, steel are used as utensils.
  • Mercury is used in thermometer and helps to check the temperature.
  • Aluminium are used as insulation wires.

1. Iron - used to manufacture steel and also used in civil engineering like reinforced concrete, girders etc.

2. Copper - used in electrical equipment such as wiring and motors

3. Aluminium - used in a huge variety of products including cans, foils, kitchen utensils, window frames, beer kegs and aeroplane parts

4. Zinc - used to galvanise other metals, such as iron, to prevent rusting

5. Silver - used for jewellery and silver tableware

6. Gold - used for making jewellery, awards and medals

7. Platinum - used in jewellery, decoration and dental work

8. Chromium - used to harden steel, to manufacture stainless steel and to produce several alloys

9. Sodium - used as a heat exchanger in some nuclear reactors, and as a reagent in the chemicals industry

10. Lead - used for car batteries, pigments, ammunition, cable sheathing, weights for lifting, weight belts for diving, lead crystal glass, radiation protection and in some solders

Non-metals :-

1. Carbon - used as a fuel. Graphite is used for pencil tips, high temperature crucibles, dry cells, electrodes and as a lubricant

2. Sulphur - used in black gunpowder, matches, and fireworks; in the vulcanisation of rubber; as a fungicide, insecticide, and fumigant; in the manufacture of phosphate fertilisers; and in the treatment of certain skin diseases

3. Phosphorus - used in the manufacture of safety matches, pyrotechnics and incendiary shells

4. Hydrogen - used by industry for refining petroleum, treating metals, producing fertiliser, and processing foods

5. Oxygen - uses of oxygen include production of steel, plastics and textiles, brazing, welding and cutting of steels and other metals, rocket propellant, oxygen therapy, and life support systems in aircraft, submarines, spaceflight and diving
