HIV is human immunodeficiency virus. It damages the immune system of the infected person, so the body loses its ability to fight off infections. Untreated HIV will infect and kill the T cells. This makes the person vulnerable to various types of infections and cancers.

HIV is transmitted from one person to another only through body fluids like blood, semen,  vaginal and rectal fluids, and breast milk.

There is no cure for HIV. Untreated HIV will lead to Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome or AIDS. This is advanced stage of HIV where the immune system is too weak, less than 200 T cells per cubic millimeter of blood.
