Answer:

D . On heating, ferrous sulphate crystals lose water and anhydrous ferrous sulphate (FeSO4) is formed. So their colour changes from light green to white. On further heating, anhydrous ferrous sulphate decomposes to form ferric oxide (Fe2O3), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and sulphur trioxide (SO3).

By heating ferrous sulphate,the following products are formed -

• The ferrous sulphate is decomposed when it is heated. The decomposition of the ferrous sulphate takes place into two phases.

• In phase one,the anhydrous ferrous sulphate (FeSO4) and water (H2O) are formed.

2FeSO4.7H2O + ∆ -----> FeSO4 (anhydrous) + 7H2O

• When we apply more heat to the previously won anhydrous ferrous sulphate, the second phase of decomposition takes place. In this phase, ferric oxide (Fe2O3) , sulphur dioxide (SO2) , sulphur trioxide (SO3) are formed.

FeSO4 + ∆ -----> Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
