Certain plants have tuberous roots which are swollen due to storage of food. These roots produce buds on them. If these root buds are planted in soil, they grow into new plants.

Some roots we eat are:

• sweet potato
• carrot
• radish
• beetroot

Other examples are lemon and tamarind, where a root cutting can form new plants when put in moist soil.
