..The most common, severe congenital anomalies are heart defects, neural tube defects and Down syndrome. Although congenital anomalies may be the result of one or more genetic, infectious, nutritional or environmental factors, it is often difficult to identify the exact causes. The names of anatomical defects are:
Down syndrome - It causes a distinct facial, intellectual disability and developmental delays. It is also known as trisomy 21.
Heart defects- The most common congenital heart defect is a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV).
Clubfoot - It is a birth defect in which the foot is twisted out of its natural shape or position.
Cleft Lip or Palate - It is a defect in which there is an opening or splits in the roof of the mouth and lip.
