Two important hormones are insulin and glucagon.

Explanation:

  • Cori cycle is a metabolic pathway in which lactate is produced in muscle by anaerobic glycolytic pathway is transported to liver and converted to glucose which then return to muscle.
  • Muscular activity require energy which is provided by breakdown of glycogen called glycogenolysis which is controlled by glucagon.
  • glucose produced due to breakdown of glycogen metabolized into lactate under anaerobic condition
  • this lactate transported to liver and converted back to glucose by gluconeogenesis. This glucose is released into blood stream.
  • if this process continued for long time blood glucose level will be very high and glycogen storage of muscle will be exhausted.
  • To replenish the supplies of glycogen into muscle and control blood glucose level, insulin play an important role by promoting glycogenesis, in this process cells take up glucose from blood and convert it to glycogen.
