• We can modify one or more characters in a text layer differently than the rest by turning the text into a shape.
• To convert 'text into a shape', 'right-click' on the 'text layer', and choose 'Convert To Shape'.
• Then choose the 'Direct Selection tool' then by keep pressing 'Shift with A' and 'click-and-drag' the points in the path to 'give the characters a new shape'.  
• Further, once the text is converted to a shape, it will no longer editable.
