The observations made by Rutherford led him to conclude that: A major fraction of the α-particles bombarded towards the gold sheet passed through it without any deflection, and hence most of the space in an atom is empty. The positive charge in an atom is concentrated in a very small volume.

Explanation:
Observation's of Rutherford Atomic Model :
1)Most of the alpha particles can travel straight through the gold foil based on this we will say that most of the space in the atom is empty.
2)some few particles of helium
deflected with the angles of 60degrees ,90degrees and120 degrees.
3)In 20,000 alpha particles 1 or 2 particles bounce back with the angle of 180 degrees because of the charge of center of the atom and charge of alpha particle both are same (positive charge).
4)The Center of the atom considered as nucleus it consist of protons and neutrons.
5)The size of the atom is (10 power -8)cm or (10 power -10) m.
6)The size of the atom is 10 power 5 times greater than that of the nucleus.
7)It is also called as planetary (or) solar (or) nuclear atomic model.
Drawbacks:
1)According to planetary model if the electrons continuously revolve around the nucleus means, it can emits the radiation.then it can loose it's energy.then the electrons come closer to the nucleus and atom will destroyed.
2)It will not happen in the Rutherford atomic model.
3)Spectral lines of the atom not explained by alpha scattering experiment.
Hope!!! it helps you....
