Answer:

Let's first consider the factors of 12:

12 = 1 x 12

12 = 2 x 6

12 = 3 x 4

How do you get -12?

One of the factors has to be negative

So now. We have Six pairs possible including

-4, 3 and -3, 4

In each of these pairs the difference of smaller one from the bigger one is 7

Such differences in other pairs are 13 and 8.

If you try to solve this algebraically you will end up with a very similar problem when you need to factorise the expression:

x2−7x+12

You need to find two numbers x1 , x2 such that their sum is 7 , and the product is 12 , and the corresponding y - values would be

y1=x1−7 & y2=x2–7
