The physical state of any material is dependent upon the kinetic energy comprised within the atoms and molecules that bring it up.

a) Rigid and incompressible- solid.

  • Solids possess the lowest quantity of kinetic energy. The atoms that compose a solid are tight close together and are rigid so that they can only vibrate in place.

b) Definite shape and definite volume- also a solid.

  • Solids possess an obvious shape and a definite volume.

c)Most compressible form of matter - Gas.

  • a gas possesses no obvious shape, it carries the structure of the container that carries it. Gases are effortlessly compressible. Molecules are segregated by distances that are vast and correlated with the size of the molecules.

d)Definite volume but no fixed shape- liquid.

  • Possess no obvious shape but possess a particular volume, and they are not effortlessly compressible. Molecules are tight together, but are not carried so rigidly in position and can shift past one another.
