The leading term is of highest degree and it goes on decreasing in descending order .

for ex:- ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d

=) now according to question :

=) x - 7+8x^2+9x^3

it can be written in standard form as:

====) 9x^3 + 8x^2 + x - 7
