the principle behind it is based on the principle where molecules in mixture applied into the surface or into the solid and fluid stationary phase are called stable phase is separating from each other while moving with the aid of a mobile phase.
in simple words the the composition in a a dense liquid mixture like in, the colour which is highly soluble gets dissolved first in water and moves up with the capillary action on blotting paper
where as the colour which is least soluble takes more time to dissolve in water and moves up slowly on the blotting paper due to capillary action
separation funnel:-
the principle behind it is that immiscible liquid separate out in layers depending on their densities.
in simple words the difference between densities of two immiscible liquids makes a layer of one above another just like water and oil makes a layer over one over another
