the translocation in phloem is achieved by utilising energy. The surcose (food) prepared in leaves is transferred to sieve tubes of phloem tissue by using energy from ATP.This increases osmotic pressure of phloem tissue causing the water to move into it.This high pressure produced in phloem tissue moves the food materials to all other parts having less pressure in their tissues.This is helpful in moving the materials according to the needs of the plant.
