No product will formed when (CH3)3 C- CHO reacts with the following reagents due to:

  • Here, the aldol condensation reaction will not occur as for aldol condensation atleast one alpha hydrogen should be there.

  • Alpha hydrogen is hydrogen at carbon adjacent to carbonyl carbon. But in (CH3)3 C- CHO it is not present.

  • So for this reaction, (CH3)3 C- CHO reacts with reagents CH3COCH3, in the presence of dilute NaOH and it will form no product , let's see the reaction:

dil.NaOH

  • (CH3)3 C- CHO + CH3COCH3 —> no reaction.

Answer:

Aldol condensation takes place!

(CH3)3C-CHO does not have alpha hydrogen but CH3COCH3 has alpha H

the product formed is
