When ehanol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 443 K, dehydration takes place and ethene is formed. In this reaction concentrated sulphuric acid acts as a dehydrating agent.

When ethanol is heated with conc.H2SO4, at 413K, the product will be diethyl ether and at 443K, the product will be ethene.

- When ethanol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 443 K, dehydration takes place and ethene is formed.

C2H5OH + (conc. H2SO4 at 443K) ------> CH2=CH2

- When ethanol is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 413 K, then diethyl ether is formed.

C2H5OH + (conc. H2SO4 at 413K) ------> C2H5-O-C2H5
