Introduction of Alum-

It's general formula is

 \bold{M_{2}SO_{4}.M'_{2}(SO_{4})_{3}.24H_{2}O}

where,

M is the Monovalent Radical

M' is trivalent radical

• Ion of each metal is teared by 6 molecules of water.

• It is the sulphate which is double of salt.

Properties of Alum-

It is highly soluble in water and is white crystalline solid.

• Dehydration occurs on heating.

• It swells up after heating.

• In aqueous solution it's very acidic.

Uses of Alum-

It is generally used to stop bleeding.

• Also used for the purification of water.
