Generally as mass and densities increase, volume decreases.Solids tend towards more mass because atoms that make up matter are closer together and are dense, liquids have atoms that are  further apart so it has less density and tends to weigh less, while gases have their atoms , farthest apart and are generally least dense and weigh less. As I said this is a general rule in a normal environment of degrees Farenheit. This rule may change, according to environmental factors and extreme temperatures, where as gases become more solid and atoms draw closer together, they can weigh more. The rules than change as far as gases and liquids are concerned.depends own pressure and temperature and the properties of the material. It is possible to compress O2 or other gases, cool them if necessary and produce a state that has all the properties of a liquid.

lots to learn. sounds like a high school q.
